Summary

We are in search of a creative and self-driven individual who possesses a deep understanding of in-silico drug discovery chemistry techniques and principles. Additionally, strong leadership skills are essential for building and overseeing a new team, as well as collaborating effectively across various disciplines. This role is both dynamic and challenging, offering the chance to shape and lead Insmed UK's computational chemistry strategy, ultimately contributing to the creation of ground-breaking medicines. Responsibilities

Additional representative responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following: 

  • Lead the computational chemistry efforts within the medicinal chemistry group, driving rational drug design and supporting pipeline activities 
  • Develop a user enabled, cutting-edge computational design platform that integrates the latest in-silico techniques for drug discovery  
  • Foster collaboration between computational chemistry and medicinal chemistry 
  • Establish and manage a computational chemistry team to effectively support drug discovery projects 
  • Apply advanced in-silico techniques to guide compound design and optimization across the pipeline projects. 
  • Develop the Cheminformatics and data management strategy in conjunction with the Bioinformatics teams 
  • Take a lead role in drug discovery/medicinal chemistry projects, providing program strategy and efficient delivery of high-quality molecules 
  • Contribute to building a world-class medicinal chemistry group as a key part of the chemistry leadership team 
  • Manage and mentor members of the medicinal/computational chemistry team 
  • Present at and contribute to internal company scientific and strategic review panels 
  • Stay informed about competitive landscape and external technology developments for potential collaborations and enhancement of company capabilities 
  • Identify opportunities to publish company results

Qualifications

  • A degree in chemistry or a related discipline 
  • 5+ years' experience in a computational chemistry role within a medicinal chemistry group 
  • Deep understanding of medicinal/computational chemistry principles of ligand and structure-based design, DMPK (Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics) principles, and multi-parameter optimization 
  • Proven track record of contributing to successful drug discovery projects from hit identification to clinical candidate selection 
  • Demonstrated flair for structure-based drug design 
  • Competency with scientific scripting/programming is preferred 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex concepts effectively 
  • A strong sense of urgency and focus to deliver successful outcomes  
  • Up to date awareness of latest technology developments in drug design 
  • Significant track record of publications and patents 
  • Experience of a range of drug discovery modalities including small molecule inhibitors, targeted protein degradation and oligonucleotides would be beneficial

Some travel to visit other Insmed sites and CRO partners
