Summary

We are looking to hire a talented statistical geneticist to join our growing Human Genetics team at Insmed. As a member of our team, you will apply your expertise in statistical genetics / bioinformatics to conduct exciting research supporting our proprietary technology platform of ‘Synthetic Rescue’ and direct target discovery. You will leverage datasets consisting of hundreds of thousands of humans to identify novel therapeutic targets and collaborate with our extensive wet lab team to drive these targets to the clinic.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research on ‘Synthetic Rescue’ at the direction of the human genetics leadership team
  • Curate and analyse phenotypic and multi-omics data from large-scale human genetics datasets
  • Utilise Insmed’s proprietary human genetic analysis workflows both locally and in cloud-based environments to perform genetic association studies
  • Perform ad hoc analyses and function as a subject leader in support of ongoing wet lab / informatics projects
  • Analyse, quality control, and assess human population-scale next generation sequencing data
  • Partner with the informatics team to ensure reproducible informatic workflows
Required Skills:
  • PhD (or equivalent experience) in genetics, bioinformatics, medicine, biology, biostatistics, genetic epidemiology, or similar area.
  • Understanding of common statistical tests and methods for genetic association (e.g. GWAS, gene burden tests, regenie, BOLT-LMM)
  • Experience in visualisation of genetic / association test data (e.g., Integrative Genomics Viewer, ggplot2, matplotlib, etc.)
  • Experience in querying public human genetics data (e.g., GWAS summary statistics)
  • Comfortable working in a Linux or Linux-like environment (e.g., bash / shell / MacOS)
  • Proficiency in R
  • Data processing, quality control, and management skills
  • Knowledge of common bioinformatics and next generation sequencing processing and analysis workflows (e.g., GATK, bwa, plink, bcftools, hail)
Preferred Skills:
  • Proficiency in a scripting language (Python preferred)
  • Understanding of DNANexus, the UK Biobank Research Access Platform (RAP), or remote / cloud environments (e.g., AWS / gcloud / Microsoft Azure)
  • Knowledge of variant calling of different types of genetic variation including SNPs, InDels, and Structural Variants
  • Familiarity with next generation sequencing data formats (e.g., VCF, CRAM, FASTQ, etc.)
  • Knowledge of generalised linear modelling and design of ad hoc statistical tests
  • Knowledge of proteomics methods and workflows (e.g., SOMALogic / O-Link)
  • Strong presentation, visualisation, and communication skills
