Summary

We are seeking an innovative and self-driven medicinal chemist to join our dynamic chemistry team, contributing to the advancement of our drug design strategies. This role is pivotal in supporting the design and synthesis of novel molecules to translate our groundbreaking biological discoveries into medicines. Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Innovative Design: Support the design of novel molecules, leveraging cutting-edge in-silico and synthetic techniques to drive drug design. Apply efficient and effective methodologies to complete hit-to-candidate medicinal chemistry campaigns to the highest standards and in short timescales
  • Organic Synthesis: Plan and manage organic synthesis activities, ensuring efficient execution and optimization of synthetic routes. Assist in establishing safe and effective working practices in company laboratories.
  • Carrying out synthetic procedures on milligram and gram scale to support compound synthesis.
  • Working closely with other chemists and stakeholders to maximize the overall effectiveness of synthetic campaigns.Troubleshooting issues in the laboratory.
  • Process Development: Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental processes that enhance efficiency and streamline operations, critical for a fast Design-Make-Test-Analyze (DMTA) cycle. Be aware of external technology developments and opportunities for collaboration to enhance the development of company capabilities
  • CRO Management: coordinate activities with external CROs, ensuring the highest quality and timely delivery of project milestones.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including biology, pharmacology, and ADME, to integrate multidisciplinary insights into cohesive project plans.
  • Project Leadership: Support medicinal chemistry projects from concept to clinic, ensuring alignment with overall program goals and timelines. Present and contribute to internal company scientific and strategic review panels
  • Team Development: Manage and mentor a team of skilled chemists, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
  • Scientific Excellence: Identify opportunities to publish chemistry-related company results.

Required:

  • A PhD in organic chemistry
  • 5+ years' experience in a medicinal chemistry role within biotech or pharma
  • Theoretical and practical synthesis knowledge with strong problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated flair for structure-based drug design and data analysis (SAR) to tackle typical medicinal chemistry challenges including ADME and physicochemical properties.
  • Demonstrate impact on drug discovery projects (design and or synthesis) to successful outcomes.
  • Experience carrying out small molecule synthesis and interpretation of analytical methods for chemical characterization.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • A strong sense of urgency and focus to deliver successful outcomes
  • Up to date awareness of latest technology developments in drug design, synthesis and testing
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop scientists
  • Significant track record of publications and patents

Additonal skills: ELN, Data management, Knime, Data visualisation/analysis (Spotfire, Vortex)
