Summary

We are seeking an innovative, driven and experienced assay scientist to join our team and to apply their expertise in pre-clinical drug discovery, assay development, and compound profiling. In this role you will act as an individual contributor, as well as guiding and supporting team growth and development as part of our expanding drug discovery team. You will work within interdisciplinary research teams, collaborating closely with colleagues across Chemistry, Target Discovery, Human Genetics and Bioinformatics and play a pivotal role in driving forward our mission to translate groundbreaking biological discoveries into pioneering small molecule and oligonucleotide medicines.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
  • Implementation of Screening Cascades: In collaboration with project leads, define and implement in vitro screening cascades. Generate critical data for characterizing novel small molecule and oligonucleotide therapeutics through CROs/collaborations and in-house teams. Ensure these data are robust and of high quality to support project progression and inform decision-making.
  • Team Development: Guide and influence the ongoing development and expansion of a high-performing compound profiling team. Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture from within and outside of the lab.
  • Enhancement of Experimental Capabilities: Continuously enhance in-house experimental capabilities by staying abreast of cutting-edge technologies and methodologies. Identify and leverage opportunities to advance IIUK’s technological platform and research infrastructure.
  • Literature and Research Appraisal: Review and critically appraise relevant scientific literature and in-house research. Identify and develop biochemical, target engagement, mechanism of action and biomarker assays that are appropriate and innovative.
  • Data Presentation and Collaboration: Participate in and present data at company meetings to facilitate project progression. Contribute to external academic and commercial collaborations, ensuring that data is communicated effectively and fosters productive partnerships.
  • Line Management: Line manage a small team of scientists focused on providing compound profiling support to our drug discovery programs. Provide mentorship, career development opportunities and performance management to ensure a motivated and productive team. Assist in establishing and maintaining safe and effective working practices within company laboratories and ensuring compliance with all relevant safety regulations and protocols.
Position Requirements:
  • Strong scientific track record with experience (3+ years) in a drug discovery environment is essential
  • Leadership experience within small molecule therapeutic projects
  • Proven experience in early stage assay development and delivering screening cascades to support preclinical progression and candidate nomination
  • Broad technical experience working with a range of assay formats and readouts
  • Experience with laboratory automation for medium/high throughput compound profiling and assay development
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences
  • Up to date awareness of latest technology developments
  • Demonstrated experience in line management and/or mentoring

Travel Requirements

Attendance at international conferences.
