Summary

The Medical Head Southern Europe is responsible for: - Managing and leading the medical team and medical activities in the Southern Sub-Region of EMEA (Italy, France, Spain and Portugal) - Developing and executing the Southern Sub-Region medical affairs plans and strategies, including ensuring launch readiness from a Medical Affairs perspective - Leveraging insights to contribute appropriately to European and Global strategies - Forging and maintaining relationships with Key External Stakeholders, such as Medical Experts and Medical Societies - Ensuring effective and compliant cross-functional partnerships internally, in particular with Commercial and Market Access functions - Being an active member and key contributor to the regional leadership team - Ensuring appropriate monitoring and reporting of field and non-field activities - Complying with current local laws, regulations, regulatory guidance, local and EU policies and procedures

Responsibilities

Responsibilities (Essential Role Responsibilities):
  • Management of Southern Sub-Region Medical Field Team:
    • Recruiting, onboarding, training and coaching MSLs and other roles across the Sub-Region
    • Coaching, overseeing, and conducting performance evaluations of team members
    • Managing the MA budget in close collaboration with the Finance Business Partner
    • Establishing clearly defined team and individual goals & objectives (quantitative and qualitative)
    • Developing, writing, and executing national strategic plans consistent and aligned with the EMEA and Global Medical Strategy
    • Building regional capabilities in accordance with the EMEA/Global model, in particular for targeted scientific communication and narrative, Insights Management, Stakeholder Engagement and Account Planning, as well as in-field coaching, in close collaboration with the Head of Field Medical
    • Developing impactful MSL territory and project plans in collaboration with the Head of Field Medical. Ensuring alignment with EMEA medical and product strategy
    • Enabling timely and appropriate responses to internal and external Medical Information enquiries, in close collaboration with the Medical Information Lead
    • Providing regular field updates, metrics and insights to internal stakeholders
    • Ensuring the administrative and project management aspects of the team are effectively managed
    • Ensuring effective and compliant cross-functional partnerships internally, in particular with Commercial and Market Access functions
    • Being an active member and key contributor to the regional leadership team
  • External Medical Engagement:
    • Developing and executing stakeholder engagement plans including identifying, establishing and maintaining networks and relationships with External Stakeholders, such as Medical Experts and Medical Societies
    • Collaborating with the Clinical Operations team e.g. providing recommendations on investigators, site selection for Insmed studies and effective study implementation
    • Leading and executing advisory boards, medical meetings and congress activities
    • Providing medical input to managed access programs and reimbursement dossier submissions
       
  • General Medical Management:
    • Creating and ensuring implementation of the Southern Sub-Regional medical plan
    • Managing other relevant administrative responsibilities
    • Reviewing medical publications and communications
    • Execution of other medical activities

       
Position Requirements (Required and/or Preferred Skills, Experience and Education):
  • Education: Degree in Medicine is preferred or life science advanced degree such as PhD or PharmD
  • Minimum experience required: 5 or more years pharma/biotech experience in the role OR proven and relevant experience within Medical Affairs
  • Experience in managing people (MSL management preferred)
  • Medical leadership (recognized as an expert in his/her field, respected by external experts)
  • Collaborative mindset. Track record of successful outcomes within matrix cross functional teams
  • Well-organized and strategic in approach, with clear understanding of the role and value of medical affairs
  • Effective communication and presentation skills within external and internal environments
  • Enterprise mindset and business acumen
  • Fluent in Italian and English. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish are a plus.
Travel:
  • Up to 40% Domestic and/or International travel required
